when the moon is small
when the moon is small and “ordinary” … thoughts following a super moon, when the moon looks really small and ordinary but is still amazing.
There was a Super Moon recently. There were posts and pictures about it on the news and on my Insta feed. It was really beautiful and a special phenomenon. But just a few days after this, I looked up at the night sky, and the same moon was still there. This time, she looked more like a thin white fingernail. But she was still the same moon, and still uniquely, awe-inspiringly beatiful. But there was no fuss, no social media frenzy about it. Made me think Big Thoughts about the transience of life, the permanence of change, and how connected we are to it all, and how we forget that.
Made me wonder: why don’t we look up at the moon every single night and rush to tell our friends: “hey, come outside! the moon looks like it always does!! isn’t that incredible?!?”
just sayin…
